Hip Tech and Media, the brainchild of serial entrepreneur Byron Woulard, was created when he realized that his passion in life was creating and experiencing new things. He had recently retired at age 37 from a 17 year career as a professional barber, and 7 years of owning the barbershop he worked at, when he came to the conclusion that he would start working on building a tech company in the city of Chicago.

After three years of doing the research by attending industry events, learning to design websites, becoming a WordPress guru, participating in StartUp Weekends around town, and then learning how to code iPhones, and currently learning Ruby on Rails, all of his hard work is now coming into focus. Instead of just building a smartphone or web app, he decided to build brands around the lifestyle that he lived. Each app and business that he decided to build would have to directly compliment a portion of his life in a way to simplify that particular aspect of his day to day operations. He believed that if each business could help to alleviate a particular pain point in his life, then there would more than likely be others who shared in his experience that would be willing to utilize one of his brands to do the same for them.

After hearing about the Lean Methodology, he began reading The Lean Startup, The $100 Startup, The 4 Hour Work Week, a few other books about maximizing minimal time and money, he created a method to quench his creative thirst, and to maximize the minimal amount of time and money needed to move any particular project forward. By learning these things he was able to work on several business ideas in a day without fearing that he was being pulled in different directions and getting nothing done. With this knowledge in hand Hip Tech and Media was created.
